Being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia is one thing but finding an holistic answer that helps is another!

There are lots & lots of well-meaning and informative books & sites out there and they are all very helpful & should be read. Being well-informed is vital.

A guaranteed cure is still elusive and so any and every bit of useful information is welcomed.

I read all that comes out, but I also do my own research as I believe that it’s important to take responsibility for your own health.

So welcome to my research for a holistic answer to Fibromyalgia.

I’m concentrating on the Bach flower remedies but there are also flower essences, bush flower essences and similar preparations in the shops.

Bach flower remedies work on our limbic system – which is also known as our ‘emotional switchboard’. This limbic system is linked to the caudate nuclei region of the brain which deals with our pain-regulating functions. The chronic pain that is a large part of Fibromyalgia is particularly draining so I thought that tackling this issue that affects many Fibromyalgia sufferers would be a good place to start.

The remedies can be bought from all good Health shops & chemists and are very easy to use. They won’t break the bank either!

I‘ve chosen the 4 remedies that have helped me the most (there are 38 to choose from altogether)

Mimulus:

This remedy is very good at stopping you from being fearful about being chronically ill. With Fibromyalgia the symptoms can sometimes resemble heart attack symptoms and although you know you’ve been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and it’s unlikely that you’re having a heart attack, “what if?” still gnaws away at you. This will help-- trust me.

The remedy brings runaway emotions under control and gives you the courage to face life’s problems.

Impatiens:

This is a remedy to take when you can’t ease the feelings of impatience about getting better. The nervous tension that builds up because of this then has an adverse effect on your Fibromyalgia-- that old vicious circle thing!

This remedy helps you become more relaxed. It will allow you to discover new depths of patience and tolerance.

Gorse:

This is a remedy to take at the times when you feel as if you will never get better and we’ve all been there haven’t we?

It can’t work miracles; but what it does do is that it gives you a sense of detachment, so that you can plan ahead unhindered by the despair that accompanies all chronic conditions.

An excellent natural cure for the despair often associated with Fibromyalgia.

Aspen:
This is a remedy for people who suffer from vague fears and apprehensions--often fear of the unknown.

As a sufferer of Fibromyalgia I know this feeling. Often, normally when something really exciting or pleasurable is coming up, I get the foreboding of ‘Oh I hope I’ll be well & that my pains or tiredness don’t spoil the day for myself or others.’ Then I’ll get cross with myself that I’m even thinking like that and so the stress begins and ultimately more pains etc as stress exacerbates the fibromyalgia condition!

Taking Aspen helps restore confidence in the powers of good. As the anxiety fades, the heightened receptivity that makes people like us so open to irrational fears is re-directed into more positive channels. This natural cure for Fibromyalgia is a favourite of mine & I strongly recommend it.

Well, that’s the last holistic answer for Fibromyalgia for now- hope one helps you & your symptoms.

Beating fibromyalgia the holistic way- 10 tips

As a sufferer of Fibromyalgia I believe that trying to beat Fibromyalgia the holistic way is a healthy attitude to adopt.

I’m not convinced that there’s a cure. But I’m definitely working on finding out about one!

However, as a sufferer of this chronic condition for over 12 years I have made some changes to my life and the way that I think about life to help me cope.

Let me share with you my top ten tips for beating Fibromyalgia the holistic way.

1.Relax-- both your mind and body. Sometimes a lot easier said than done. But it is a lot easier to sleep deeply when you’re relaxed & it’s the lack of deep sleep which can actually cause Fibromyalgia in the first place. So it is worth it. Take time out each day just for you, it need only be 10 minutes-- but it’ll be 10 minutes every day that’ll really add up to beating Fibromyalgia. Surely you’re worth that?

2.Cut out sugar-- this has helped me so much. The acid from sugar in our diets leads to overgrowth of micro-organisms i.e. yeast & fungi and their poisons, which are released into our bodies cause the symptoms that medical science refers to as disease. These cause the aches, pains & constant tiredness associated with Fibromyalgia.

3.Eat your greens-- to re-balance ourselves we need to eat more alkaline foods to correct all the damage that too much acid in our diet has caused. Which are they? Basically if it’s green it’s likely to be alkaline. Go for it!

4.Have fun-- whenever you can, remember to fit joy & pleasure into your existence. Beating Fibromyalgia means showing it who’s boss. Do not feel limited by your condition. Meet up regularly with the positive people that you know & stay away from the negative ones.

5.Think of others-- nobody has a pain free, stress free life. We’re all on our own journeys doing the best we can with what we’ve been dealt. We’re all unique and all have a lot to offer. Don’t let Fibromyalgia define you as a person-- just as someone with Cancer wouldn’t want to be known as just someone with a disease.

6.Stretch-- have you ever seen your pet dog or cat after a snooze? They have a good old stretch. Do you ever? You should. Fibromyalgia affects the muscles & sometimes keeps them contracted which can then lead to pain. Stretching every day keeps muscles loose and eases pain. Stretching is most effective when the muscles are warm, so try and fit some stretching in every day after a shower or bath.

7.Drink plenty of water-- Beating Fibromyalgia or any disease or condition is helped greatly by drinking at least 2 litres of water/ herbal teas a day. Basically doing this on a daily basis flushes out any unwanted toxins in our system and makes us healthier.

8.Rest-- Remember to allow yourself to rest, especially if you’re going through a rough phase and not sleeping. You need your sleep and your muscles need time to rest in order to rejuvenate. Be kind to yourself.

9.Relieve those aches & pains-- Personally I have monthly Reflexology sessions. I find these very relaxing and effective in easing the aches and pains that I experience to varying degrees. There are a lot of holistic therapies out there, try a few and see which one suits you. It’s good to enlist others when beating Fibromyalgia. You’re not on your own!

10.Keep researching-- there’s plenty out there! Local support groups, e- books, new ideas as to the cause or causes, reported breakthroughs and even cures! There are a lot of people out there with a vested interest in beating Fibromyalgia once and for all.

I hope that by sharing with you some of my tips for beating Fibromyalgia the holistic way that you experience success and have a happier and healthier future.
